Our challenge as a Catholic school is to be truly inclusive of the values of the Gospel. It is our task to make real the ideals that we share- theological, educational and spiritual ideals that are based on the Mission of Jesus.
Rosary Park Catholic School is committed to creating an environment which is characterised by acceptance, security, justice and happiness.
As religious educators at Rosary Park Catholic School, our role is to provide the teaching and learning experiences so that the children may grow in their faith, in their personal relationship with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit as they learn more about the person of Jesus, His life, His ministry and His message. The children will be lead to express their love of God in their own way; celebrating the joy of belonging to the family of the Church.
SPECIAL CELEBRATIONS AT ROSARY PARK
Liturgical Celebrations are an integral part of the curriculum at Rosary Park. We have special times when we pray together as a community. Students take an active part in all liturgies and parents are invited to attend. Music, liturgical dance and processions are features of our liturgies. Our liturgies and masses are an important part of school life. You and your relatives/families are invited to join us for celebrations of the opening and closing of the school year, Catholic Schools Week, Anzac Day, the feast of Catherine MacAuley - in recognition of our Mercy heritage, as well as Our Lady of the Rosary. These and other celebrations are listed on the term planner.
We have a weekly school assembly every Friday where we acknowledge children's efforts with awards, celebrate birthdays with our school band entertaining us at this time also.
JUSTICE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Children at Rosary Park are given an opportunity to make a positive difference in the world through our commitment to service, social justice and community involvement. We actively support Catholic Missions, Caritas and the work of St Vincent de Paul. During the year fund raising events for organisations such as Mercy Works as well as disaster relief appeals all form part of a focus on service to others and support of those in need.
The school forms an integral part of the Branxton parish, where staff and students are regularly involved in community events and in attending weekday masses. We know our community and they know us.
STUDENT SUPPORT AND WELFARE
Student Welfare is the total care of students and all others in our school community. The responsibility of care is entrusted to staff, students and all family members. We base our pastoral care around the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) model, which was introduced in 2016 and revised in 2019.
Quality relationships and mutual care are integral to building community and should enable all children to grow and to be affirmed in their dignity and worth as individuals.
Through the Student Welfare Policy we hope to:
* Ensure that Student Welfare and the development of relationships is integral to and permeates the total environment and culture of the school;
* Create a caring network between families, school and the wider community in which we live;
* Develop skills in building personal relationships based on Gospel values of love, compassion, kindness, acceptance, forgiveness, respect and justice.
* Develop structures, policies and practices which support the individual student and all members of the school community;
The following are some of the activities occurring under our Positive Behaviour Support initiatives:
*Students and staff taking the opportunity to talk about issues of concern on an individual or group basis using Restorative Justice practices
* Conducting a social skills program and offering supported play options for children who need assistance in their social interactions.
* Vegetable garden and bush care program to give students an appreciation of growing fresh vegetables, composting food scraps, care for the environment and most importantly being stewards of creation.
* Developing singing, choir and band opportunities for all students through individual class singing, School choir, guitar, piano to students at lunch times and leading music at liturgical celebrations.
Affirmation and self-esteem builders are integral to Rosary Park. These take the form of Merit Certificates awarded each week at Friday's assembly. Principal's Awards are given after three Merit Certificates are earned. An Award of Excellence badge is given once three Principal's Awards have been achieved. Further awards:
* School mug after six Principal’s Awards.
* School pen after nine Principal’s Awards.
* Birthdays are celebrated at Friday assemblies.
* Children’s achievements in all fields – sporting/academic, are recognised in assemblies and in the fortnightly newsletter. Please feel free to contact the school if your child/children has/have gained recognition in activities outside school.
